Ellen had so much life and she was fun to watch, like a dancing candlelight on the gloomy BSG canvas. To watch that life go out was uncomfortable to watch. Despite her cosmopolitan ways, she was innocent at heart. Yes; Ellen made a mistake by giving intelligence to the Cylons, but did she deserve to die because of this decision? I don't know. Her actions may seem shortsighted, but Ellen dealt with a difficult situation (getting and keeping Tigh out of Cylon control) the only way she knew. Of course, Ellen’s intelligence leak could have had huge repercussions, as Sanders points out (total failure of the evac operations), but that didn't happen. The resistance was successful in communicating with Galactica, and mounting a plan to disrupt Cylon operations on New Caprica, despite Ellen. Ultimately, Ellen failed because she didn't communicate her interactions with the Cylons until it was too late. Had she, the resistance could have given the Cylons false intelligence through Ellen, using her to throw the Cylons off their scent. Did Ellen know she’d die if she drank from Tigh’s cup? That sure was fast-acting poison and from just one swallow too. Tigh’s been through too much and for him to have to destroy his wife over a decision she made to help him. Gosh. The poor man. Saul’s role as the resistance leader and the ultimate price he had to pay for his conviction to the cause against the Cylons, will result in a darker more resourceful character determined to bring down his Cylon enemies more than ever.
