What makes us human?

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

The biggest issue in A Measure of Salvation, IMHO, was the question of what makes us human — a question that’s core to BSG and has been addressed in many different ways in the show to date.  Are we human because we can love?  Because we hate?  Because we can reproduce?
When Adama and Roslin stood [...]

A Measure of… Letdown?

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

OK, I’ll admit it.  I was a little let down with the last BSG episode as well.  (I say “as well” because I’ve seen the comments on the last few posts and the last podcast, and I know that a good number of you feel this way as well.)
One question, though: Wouldn’t almost anything feel [...]

GWC Podcast #15

Friday, November 10th, 2006

“A Measure of Salvation” left us wondering how so many “coincidences” could really come to pass in one show.  Highlights: Roslin’s mean streak, Baltar’s torture “escape,” Helo’s future, the “new” Lee, and the merits of having your own pet centurion.

The Centurion Glass Ceiling

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Allow me a flight of fancy for just a sec.  Imagine yourself a fresh new graduate of Cylon basic training.  In the 20 seconds that tick by between your basic processing and your new career assignment you find your hopeful, gear-clanking mind wandering to your awesome new purpose in life.
Perhaps you’ll be a leader of [...]

Trapped

Friday, November 10th, 2006

I’ve noticed an interesting theme running through BSG - being trapped. It’s interesting how being trapped, held, or imprisoned - physically or psychologically - can affect people.
Some physical examples we see- Sharon in the cell on Galactica, Six (Gina) in same cell, Roslin in the brig, Lee in the brig when Adama is shot. Helo stuck on (Old) [...]

Anders: Just Too Good to Stay Alive

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

You’re Anders, you’ve just broken up with Starbuck and it’s your first day out in the fleet. This has got to be a different situation for the guy.  No one is actively shooting at him.  He’s a bright, honest guy that’s not afraid of hard work.
He’s gotta die.
There isn’t room for this guy in the [...]

GWC Podcast #13

Monday, November 6th, 2006

“Torn” was a wild ride, finally addressing some of the questions we’ve all been asking for years, offering us insight in some areas — and just more questions in others.  Highlights: We consider Baltar’s predicament, discuss Tigh’s future, muse about hybrids, speculate on Lee’s new rank, kid about Leoben’s “autumn” skin color, and sing you a variation [...]

Podcast #13 Later Today!

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Sorry for the delay!  Don’t worry — we’re not disappearing.  We simply delayed the recording of podcast #13 to make sure Audra could be here; She was out of pocket briefly.
Man, it’s been tough waiting, though.  Torn was an incredible episode — the one we’ve been waiting for in so many ways.  We all have [...]

Call Me Starbuck

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

Thanks to the commentors for all the great info- especially for filling in the details I spaced on in the podcast about Abraham’s sons - Isaac and Ishmael.
Now here’s an interesting one, if a bit of a long shot. The first line of Moby Dick is the famous “Call me Ishmael.” The first mate on [...]

D is for Downloaded

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

I want to take a lead from a comment posted by Chris on the comments page for podcast #12:

In convincing Lee to abandon his father [Dualla] removes a central leader and a huge cadre of warriors in the death of New-Caprica. Leaving a fattened and weakened Lee to lead a civilian contingent.

There’s room for gobs of [...]
