GWC Podcast #106
By ChuckDuring the hiatus we’re delving into some other stories, and this week marks the beginning of our Star Wars podcast arc — and our re-watch of Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Highlights: we discuss what the Trade Federation is, why Naboo is remotely important (and why you should care), see midi-chlorians as Star Wars’ glowing cylon backs, question Anakin’s “virgin birth,” note how the Jedi could’ve saved the galaxy for a few creds by buying Anakin’s mother out of slavery, decide it’s OK to say Natalie Portman is hot because she’s over 21 now (and that Anakin’s “are you an angel?” line totally works), hear part one of Sean’s Yoda rant, and compare pod racing to NASCAR (Tusken sugar-water/pot-shots at racers = Talladega beer/boobs).

Hey guys, I thought this article was interesting. It’s called The Complex and Terrifying Reality of Star Wars Fandom.

Hi guys. Much of the end of the podcast talked about the nature of the Sith. You should read “Darth Bane: Path of Destruction” and “Darth Bane: Rule of Two.” Both were released within the last few years. I haven’t read that much SW fiction, but these books were both entertaining and go a good deal into the Sith and the relationship between master and apprentice. The main character of both (Darth Bane) establishes the Rule of Two (that there can only be two Sith Lords at any one time).
At any rate … love the show.

I’ve got two words…
“Bantha Poodoo!”
or was it,
“Roger, Roger!”?

A follow up to Shawn’s comment… The comic series that inspired the two Darth Bane books is Jedi VS, Sith. Essentially the series shows how Bane became the last of two Sith which leads into the Rule of Two novel.
More geek triva Bantha Poodoo translates to Bantha Fodder.
Meh, is the board down for anyone else?

Grace Park’s call was so awesome it sent traffic over the edge and crashed the server
Or simply overloaded it through raw awesomeness

Carlin was the voice on some episodes of “Thomas the Tank Engine”. I’m not ashamed of the fact that I know this. Ok, maybe I am…

I’d like to recommend Darth & Droids http://www.darthsanddroids.net/ Screencaps from the “Phantom Menace” are used with the premise that it’s actually a RPG in a world that never had “Star Wars.” Jar-Jar was created by another player’s nine-year-old sister when he got stuck babysitting. It works, really.

Thanks, KLC! I had lost track of that one. Glad to see they’re still at it.
